Wilkes Barre Township : Assessment, Clean Up and Rebuild

Wyoming Valley Mall Reopens at 10am

Assessment, clean up and rebuild..it all begins today at the site of the EF2 tornado that touched down in Wilkes Barre Township Wednesday night.  Engineers are still trying to determine which buildings are able to be rebuilt while others will have to be torn down.  Another EF2 tornado was also confirmed to have touched down in Bradford County Wednesday night as well.  Estimated top winds of both between 111 and 135 mph.

To ensure the safety and security of all, the Township has enacted a curfew. The curfew will be in effect until 8:00am.

Extents affected by the curfew include areas along Mundy Street from Highland Park Boulevard to Tambur Boulevard (Arena Hub Plaza),

I-81 SB area of exit 168 and the Arena parking lot (the arena was not damaged). Those found in areas they are not authorized to be in will be subject to arrest.

Mundy Street between Highland Park Blvd & Tambur Blvd. will remain closed on Friday (15JUN18).

Business owners, authorized contractors, and insurance representatives are requested to not arrive to the scene until 08:00 am

Building Owners are requested to arrive at the Command Post located at 265 Mundy Street also known as Mundy Street Square, which can be accessed via the mall property (near Chipotle Mexican Grill, where they will be signed in and briefed.

The next press briefing will occur at 10:00am (15JUN18) in the vicinity of the Command Post.
