Wilkes Barre Council Approves Police Review

October 06, 2017 - 11:10 am

Wilkes Barre City Council gave unanimous approval last night for the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association to look into the city's police department. Members of the Wilkes Barre Police Benevolent Association have been asking for the independent investigation to assess the department and the tension between officers and police administration in particular the Chief Marcella Lendacky.  Critics say some officers have been wrongly suspended in recent months, including the president and vice president of the union.  Council isn't sure how much the review will cost, but members believe it will save money by avoiding arbitration to settle various union grievances that have stemmed from the bickering.
