Some Still Out Of Their Homes Due to River Ice Jams

January 25, 2018 - 5:39 am

People in the flood effected area in West Pittston are still out of their homes this morning. A mandatory evacuation was announced last evening.  Susquehanna River levels are still changing quickly as ice jams continue to break up. According officials most of those jams are between Pittston and the 8th St Bridge in Wyoming. Ice jams are unpredictible because as they break up they can cause water to rush ahead and change river levels quickly. Luzerne County Emergency Management officials remind onlookers to stay out of the flood effected West Pittston area and off the river banks. The nature of how quickly things can change makes it very dangerous. EMA officials plan an update on conditions around 10 this morning.
