On Monday, June 22, 2020, Wilkes-Barre Mayor George C. Brown announced the reopening of playground equipment within the City’s parks starting Tuesday, June 23rd.  Visitors to city parks are asked to wear masks and observe social distancing practices when possible.

The Coal Street Park splashpad will not open during the summer of 2020 due to recommendations and regulations put forward by both the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the CDC.

In sports related news, it was announced that softball leagues may begin to register by calling Dave Iskra at 570.472.2304. As a reminder, softball leagues are responsible for maintaining all health and safety guidelines throughout the upcoming season.

Basketball rims and nets will not be reinstalled at this time, but this decision will be revisited on a monthly basis moving forward.

As a reminder, even though Luzerne County is currently under the “green phase”, large gatherings of more than 250 individuals is still prohibited at this time.
