Proposed 2021 Lackawanna County Budget: No Property Tax Increase

Lackawanna County Commissioners announced their proposed budget for 2021 yesterday, there is no property tax hike. The county does have a general fund surplus with which they can use to close a gap in the operating deficit.  Officials are waiting to see what property tax revenue will be collected in the next few months. Taxpayers dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic were waived penalties on county tax bills paid in full by the end of the year. A virtual public hearing on the proposed budget will be Monday at 10am on ECTV’s YouTube channel. In person public hearings on the proposed budget will be begin Tuesday October 20 at Carbondale city hall at 2pm.
