Local school officials discuss delaying the start of fall sports

A number of options on the table affecting high school sports today

Athletic directors and principals will be meeting in Dunmore today to discuss when to start the fall sports season in the Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association. Monday is the official start of heat acclimitization and practices slated to start on August 24. It's reported that options such as a tiered system of start dates depending on the risk assessed for each sport. Football considered the highest risk while non-contact sports like golf, cross country and tennis are low risk. Another idea is to delay all sports except football to August 24, with football starting in mid-September. LIAA principals are expected to vote following the meeting in Dunmore today.
