Lackawanna League officials vote to delay high school sports this fall

Tiered approach depending on Covid-19 risk per sport

There will be a late start to high school sports this fall in the Lackawanna League. Principals from the 25 member Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association voted 24-1 to delay the start due to Covid-19, and 22-3 to do so on a tiered basis according to risk of sport. Football is considered high risk and practice will not begin until September 14. The moves the first games to October 2. Golf and tennis are lowest risk and will begin on August 17. Moderate risk sports like soccer, field hockey, volleyball and cross country start August 24. Individual schools will decide if voluntary workouts can take place in accordance with their district's safety guidelines.
