Final 2020 Luzerne County Budget Released

The final 2020 Luzerne County budget has been released. The spending plan ended up at more than 152-million dollars.

The toal is more than $1-million dollars less than the proposal from the county Manager David Pedri. The real estate tax hike was reduced from 5-percent to 3 and a quarter percent.

The increase means the owner of a $100-thousand dollar property will pay $617 in county taxes next year, or about $19 more than last year.

It’s unclear if a council majority will support reopening the budget to make additional changes after four new members are seated at the council meeting Monday evening.
