New Electronics Rules for Luzerne County Courthouse

Disruptions in court prompted the changes

March 28, 2017 - 5:46 am

Heading to court in Luzerne County? Leave the cell phone at home or be prepared to turn it off.  Under a new policy from county President Judge Richard Hughes that goes for tablets, laptops and cameras as well. Court officials say proceedings have been interrupted by cell phones ringing and a recent incident in which a person in the courtroom recorded testimony and posted it on social media. Permission must be given in advance for use of electronic devices near entrances and exits of courtrooms. Violations are a thousand dollar fine and up to 6 months behind bars.
