Hazleton's Mayor Unveils Proposed Budget for 2018

Hazleton  Mayor Jeff Cusat unveiled his proposed budget for 2018. The 10.5 million dollar spending plan includes a 1.55 percent  property tax increase. The budget would be balanced with the sale or lease of a municipal authority assets. That would be either the Greater Hazleton Joint Sewer Authority or Hazleton City Authority. At last night's city council meeting many members spoke out against the idea.

Also at the city council meeting a unanimous vote by council to apply for a $239,000 state gaming grant. It would be used to cover equipment costs and training for Hazleton Police who will launch a group violence intervention program to target drugs and crime in  Hazleton
