The Luzerne County Council has approved a 10-year tax abatement plan for a proposed commercial development project in Hanover Twp.

The Council voted to defer tax revenue on new buildings constructed by NorthPoint Development on a 150-acre tract between the Sans Souci Parkway and South Main Street. The tax plans includes a100 percent tax abatement for the first seven years, followed by reduced taxes in years 7 thru 10 .

Hanover Twp. and Hanover Area School District recently approved the same plan for the firm that developed the commercial complex that includes the chewy.com facility in Hanover Twp.

NorthPoint also plans to develop a large commercial piece of land that stretches from Hanover Twp. into Nanticoke. All of the taxing bodies previously approved a 10-year tax abatement plan for that project.
