Big Decisions Could Mean Big Cuts in Scranton Schools

December 15, 2017 - 5:18 am

Big cuts including teacher layoffs and a 3.6percent tax increase are possible in the Scranton School District. At last nights meeting of the board district officials announced the options they say are needed to close the budget gap of close to 19million dollars for 2018. Subjects like art, gym and music would fall to regular elementary teachers while layoffs would include teachers of those subjects as well as  library, industrial arts and family and consumer sciences and 10 special education teachers. Another meeting is set for next week and the budget must be approved by the end of the year.
